Tough times are just like night.

They disappear on their own if you hang on, but pressing on during hard times can be challenging.

That’s why I’ve compiled some tips to help you stay confident and secure. Let’s beat the shit out of difficult times and stay positive for good, shall we?

1. Stay Focused On What You ‘Do’ Want

Hard times are painful.

You go through a lot of mental and emotional turbulence, and you might also lose focus.

You start thinking about the things you don’t want instead of things you do want.

For example:

“I don’t want to fail.”

“I don’t want to suffer.”

“I don’t want to stay behind.”

Imagine visiting a restaurant.

The waiter comes and asks you “Yes sir, what would you like not to have?”

How would you react?

Luckily, no such restaurant exists on planet earth.

The waiter is supposed to ask “Yes sir, what would you like to have?” You read the menu and decide what you want. Then you place an order; it’s that simple.

Life is also about placing orders with your thoughts and actions. When you use the right ideas and act upon them, you get what you want.

So, be persistent and stay focused on your dreams.

2. Find Time to Relax

Crazy deadlines. Late night meetings. Horrible traffic.

Life can inevitably consume you if you let it.

Of course, work is essential, but so is relaxation. Find some time for yourself.

Here are some ideas to get you started.

Get a Massage

You surely can go to a spa for an exotic massage.

But if you’re on a budget, you can try out your neighbourhood barber. He can give you a relaxing massage for dirt-cheap.

A massage helps you relax, especially your stressed shoulders and spinning head.

Walk

A park is a relaxing place to consume tons of fresh air. It also gives you a chance to be with yourself.

Try walking on grass barefoot-it’s a pleasure you won’t find anywhere else.

Watch moon

Moon is a symbol of peace, purity, and tranquillity.

Watching moon can induce a sense of oneness with the universe.

Moon is said to have a calming effect on your mind. And calmness is what you need during tough times.

Watch your favourite movie

Watching your favourite videos can also help you unwind.

Switch off your mobile phone and turn the system on. Now, let the characters take you to another world.

Some More Ideas to Help You Relax

  • Playing with kids
  • Walking down the street with your wife (or your neighbour’s)
  • Killing enemies on play station

3. Spend Time With Positive People

Spending time with positive people can help you see the world from a fresh perspective.

Hanging out with a bubbly and positive girl for even 15 minutes is more empowering than spending a whole day with a negative person.

4. Read Inspiring Personal Growth Books

Reading motivational books is a great way to increase positivity.

Try reading an inspirational book just before going to bed.

Or you may choose to read biographies of great people-who survived tough times and rose above the crowd.

Feeding your mind with positive thoughts is an effective method to help you stay positive during hard times.

5. Do Something Out of Your Comfort Zone

We all have our comfort zones. We do things in a certain way and rarely think of trying something new.

Doing something you’ve never done before is bound to make you nervous.

But once you’re through, you feel more confident. And confidence is a sign of increasing positivity.

6. Ask Successful People How ‘They’ Did It

I have an uncle in my family I never talked much with for around 20 years.

One day we were sitting together, and he started sharing his life experiences – how he faced challenges and survived tough times.

I was amazed at his courage and enthusiasm and felt sorry for myself for not talking to him earlier.

Never assume people will not share their success secrets. You can never know unless you ask.

So the tip is-request successful people to share their insights.

  • Ask how they did it.
  • Ask what worked and what didn’t.
  • Ask if they have any advice for you.

You may surprise yourself.

7. Watch What You Eat

We have a saying in India “Jaisa khao ann, waisa ho jaye mann” (The type of food you eat have a profound impact on your mind)

Eat junk food, and you’ll be anxious and stressed all day long.

Eat unprocessed food, and you’ll feel happier, calmer, and more confident.

Yeah, it’s easy to grab a ready-to-eat-burger or pizza than preparing a healthy salad.

But the time spent preparing a healthy meal is worth it.

The foods you eat can have a positive or adverse effect on your emotional state.

Start off your meals with a plate full of raw vegetables and fruits. Eat salad first, the main course later.

Try herbal tea or a pure glass of good old milk before going to bed – it promotes sound sleep and helps you rejuvenate.

8. Clean And Organize Your Closet

“I am late for work. Where are my black socks? Oh god, my closet is an ugly mess!”

Sound familiar? Do you find it hard to locate your clothes when you need them?

It looks like you need to De-clutter your closet.

Get everything out – yes, every single thing. Take a good look at all the clothes, and sort them into three groups.

Group 1- Clothes you want to keep (keep them)
Group 2- Items you wish to discard (throw them away)
Group 3- Clothes you want to give away (give them to someone)

A clean and organised closet gives you peace of mind and clarity of thoughts. I know it sounds too simple but who says staying uplifted needs to be complicated.

Staying positive when nothing seems to work is not an easy task, but you can make it if you summon courage, keep hope and know in your heart that this too, shall pass.
